Clinton participates in Welcome Home Mississippi

By Randy Bell

Clinton is taking steps to keep its designation as a certified retirement community. The City’s Director of Communications Marlee Price says under the Mississippi Development Authority’s program to attract retirees known as Welcome Home Mississippi, cities must undergo an evaluation every three years to be recertified.

Clinton is one of fourteen communities across the state to meet all the requirements, which include an affordable cost of living, access to quality medical care, low taxes, a low crime rate, cultural, recreational and educational opportunities and friendly neighbors.

Price says the City will be doing more to market itself as a retirement destination.

“I feel like the retirement program has kind of been passed around in the past,” said Price. “So now, I’m trying to take on that initiative, and the rebranding that we’re doing as a City is actually helping.”

“I’ll use the agency that’s helped us to redesign the [City’s] website to take some of the materials that we’ve done in the past and make them retirement-specific,” continued Price, “So that, when we do have someone who is interested in moving to Clinton, I have specific collateral [information] that I can send them on what our City has to offer.”
