While Clinton officials are busy making improvements to the City parks, vandals seem intent on tearing them up.  Recently, a new foot bridge at Kids Towne Park was deliberately damaged.  Those responsible ripped some of the railings off the bridge, which was among recent upgrades designed to make the park more accessible and enjoyable.

Clinton continues to pump money into the parks, this year using revenue from the City’s two per cent restaurant tax to finance new restrooms, concession stands and playground equipment.  Only a few steps away from the damaged bridge at Kids Towne, a new pickleball court complex is being constructed, and money from a bond issue is going toward a major lighting project at Traceway Park.

In a statement posted on the City’s website, Director of Communications and Tourism Marlee Price wrote, “Our parks are meant to be safe, welcoming environments for everyone to enjoy.  We ask for your help in keeping them clean, beautiful and free from vandalism.  If you see any suspicious activity, report it to local authorities immediately.  Any damage to park facilities can be reported directly to Courtney Nunn, director of parks and recreation.”

The statement continued, “The Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to maintaining and preserving our public spaces, but they can’t do it alone.  Our parks belong to everyone, and it’s our responsibility to protect them.”
