Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher, who recently announced that he will not run for re-election, shared observations and updates with the Forever Young organization at First Baptist Church at their recent meeting, which included a focus of prayers for Clinton and the nation.

“For the future election, ask your candidates seeking the office what their plans for the city are,” Fisher advised. Mentioning the need for more housing, he discussed proposed developments, answering questions about the impact of new building sites.

Fisher said zoning is the major issue for proposed developments, which require time for study and discussion before a final vote.

The future will bring a parkway look for Highway 80, where ongoing site preparation is paving the way for the Rising Spring project that will house a mixed-use variety of businesses and restaurants.

Fisher mentioned the City budget concerns that saw raises for the police department and the need for more money to bring raises for fire department personnel.

He stated that criticisms on social media can be deterrents for new businesses exploring the possibility of locating in Clinton. He emphasized that the “Ask the Mayor” site is a good way for citizens to seek answers to concerns and questions. Appropriate City department personnel can answer queries as completely, accurately and quickly as possible.
