The Wood Activity Center on Clinton Boulevard will be filled with colors of all shades on Wednesday, April 23, as the Living Young program for individuals ages fifty and up gathers for a fun-filled Spring Fling Color Party Picnic and afternoon of fun.

Set to begin at 12:30 p.m., attendees are asked to pick a color, wear the color, and bring foods that match their chosen color to share at the picnic. Organizers say, “Whether you go all out in bright red, sunny yellow, or cool blue, this is your chance to get creative with both your outfit and your snacks. It’s a fun way to celebrate community, enjoy delicious food, and add a pop of color to the day!”

While the picnic is free, those who wish to attend are asked to sign up for a color in advance to help ensure the event includes a full rainbow of flavors and fun.

The Living Young Mini Conference is set for Wednesday, April 30, also at the Wood Center. With sessions beginning at 9 a.m., the day will include expert insights, innovative strategies, and practical tools to help enhance attendees’ health, finances and overall well-being. At 9 a.m., there will be a presentation about innovations in the care of women with bladder/bowel control issues. At 10 a.m., a representative from Edward Jones Investments will talk about working towards financial goals and avoiding common investing mistakes. The 11 a.m. discussion will be about kidney health awareness and will be followed by a complimentary lunch at noon. Following lunch, 1 p.m. will bring activities for the brain and body, and the conference will conclude at 2 p.m. with a presentation about the science of brain health. The conference is free.

More fun is to be had on May 1, when the Wood Center hosts its annual Living Young Derby Day at 1:30 p.m. Those who attend can experience the excitement of the races with fun activities, refreshments and a festive atmosphere. There will be awards for “Best Dressed” and “Best Hat,” and the afternoon will include energy, competition and celebration.

The following morning, on May 2, the group will gather to host a Public Service Appreciation Breakfast, a meaningful morning at the Wood Center filled with gratitude as the Living Young members pay tribute to the dedicated individuals serving the City of Clinton, including police, fire and public works. Attendees are asked to bring breakfast items that they believe the workers will enjoy, and to take part in engaging conversations as they connect during breakfast from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.

May 5 brings a Cinco De Mayo celebration at 12:30 p.m. Walking tacos, refreshing mocktails and Lotería Bingo will provide festive vibes, delicious bites, and an unforgettable fiesta. RSVPs are requested for the celebration.

The fun continues with two opportunities for Living Young food enthusiasts to join plant-based Chef Charles Smith for exclusive cooking demonstrations. The first opportunity is on May 7, and the second will be on May 14, both set for 1 p.m. Chef Charles will showcase his signature techniques, share tips and demonstrate recipes that are both healthy and delicious. Attendees can watch, ask questions and sample the dishes. RSVPs are required for the culinary event.

Other regular Living Young offerings include fitness classes; line dancing; craft opportunities; dominoes, bridge and card game sessions; music workshops; and meditation and reflection sessions.
