Civic Corner: Board of Aldermen Recap

The Clinton Board of Alderman Meeting for July 21, 2026, started with a presentation from Main Street Clinton Director Tara Lytal.
Main Street Clinton celebrated a successful summer with another year of Fresh at Five and Dinner and a Movie dates, as well as a few new offerings like the Petite Paint Out, Mahjong and the Sizzlin’ Summer Sidewalk Sale.
She said they have celebrated many Red Carpet Roll Outs, pointing out the Olde Towne district has only one vacancy, being 97 percent filled.
Continuing the annual excitement, Tara said Main Street Clinton is looking forward to another year of Cruzin’ Clinton Car Show, as well as Dinner and a Movie.
She closed out by letting the Board know that Main Street Clinton picked up three awards at the Mississippi Main Street Association Annual Awards Luncheon, winning the Outstanding Community Transformation Award and Outstanding Business Retention or Recruitment Program Award for its 2025 Properties and Possibilities Showcase. Clay Mansell, publisher of The Clinton Courier, was recognized as a Main Street Hero for his support of downtown Clinton.
The Board took action to advertise for professional support services for a maintenance contract for the City’s street lighting system.
The next four actions were change orders involving Traceway Park’s Softball Fourplex project. The first change order was to increase the water supply line’s thickness. The second change order was to reroute some electrical supply lines, so as not to interfere with the new field lights installed last year.
The third and fourth change orders focused on changes needed in the building plans, such as doors and ventilation.
The Board heard from the Presley family looking to have late fees waved that were assigned to their rental properties after a failure to submit rental registration and fees. The Board reduced the $2,500 late fees to $500.
The Board also approved a preventative care maintenance contract with Ivey Mechanical for $3,451.55 to maintain the HVAC systems at Public Works.
Finally, the Board approved the salary for the Director of Administration for Public Works, as well as approved the hiring of three individuals for the Department of Public Works.
