The Hinds Lady Eagles softball team got back over .500 with 2 wins over in-state rival East Central Community College putting them at 7-5 on the season.
Game one was controlled by pitcher Sydney Davis (Clinton) as she tossed a complete game with one earned run on 7 hits, while striking out 4 batters. The Lady Eagles defense backed Davis the whole game highlighted by a pivotal play at the plate in which sophomore center fielder Hanna Mitchell (Florence) threw out the potential, game-tying run in the top of 7th inning.
Offensively the Eagles provided Davis with just enough run support to get the 3-2 win as Madeleine Hart (Kingwood, TX) led the Lady Eagle offense with 2 hits and one RBI.
The Lady Warriors of East Central sought to answer back with vigor early in game 2, scoring 2 runs in the first frame against freshman pitcher Cassidy Rhea (West Monroe, LA). The Lady Eagles fought back in the 3rd inning and tied the game 2-2 on a lead-off walk, and RBI singles by sophomores Mitchell and Amelia Purdy (Calhoun, LA).
After surrendering the lead in the Top of the 5th with the score then 3-2 in favor of the Lady Warriors, the Lady Eagles answered in the bottom of the 5th scoring 7 runs on 6 hits to take the lead 10-3 before lightning and rain suspended the game. After the delay, the game was subsequently ended giving the Hinds softball team the victory.
The Lady Eagles will be back in action Friday and Saturday (March 1 and 2) at Rene T. Warren Field in Raymond against Bossier Parish Community College (LA). Friday’s games will be played at 2 & 4 PM, followed by another double header Saturday at 12 & 2 PM.
