The Hinds Community College Eagles soccer team is primed for another post-season run entering the 2019 season.
“Our goals remain the same. First and foremost, we are looking to win the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division. If we win the North, we will host the state tournament. From there, our goals are to win the conference championship and go to the national tournament,” said head coach Doug Williams.
The Eagles return nine players who saw playing time in 2018.
Most notably, coach Williams returns two 2018 MACJC All-State players in Beau Rimmer (St. Stanislaus) and Andrew Klinck(Southaven). Rimmer will serve as the team captain in 2019 and look to solidify the Eagles defense. Klinck returns as Hinds leading scorer and will look to build upon his nine goals and three assists he tallied last season.
Some additional key returners include forward Justin Phipps(Madison) and defender TJ Smith (Jackson). Phipps will be used as an attacking player and will look to progress upon his freshman season where he collected nine points (four goals and one assist). Smith will be a key contributor as well and start at left back.
Hinds also returns Ryan Hymel (Biloxi) who will look to provide good leadership and depth at the goal keeper position.
The Eagles added 12 players to their roster this offseason including nine freshmen and three transfers.
Freshmen Dawson Albritton (Brandon) and midfielder Greg Anderson (Jackson) will see significant playing time for the Eagles this season. Both freshman where highly recruited out of school by National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and Division II schools. Albritton will get the nod to start at goal keeper while Anderson will serve as one of the midfielders.
The three transfers Hinds added this offseason are defender Daminik White (Longwood, Florida), forward Braylen Greer(Vicksburg), and defender Darrell Paige (Pearl). White transferred in from Pearl River Community College while Greer and Paige both transferred in from East Central Community College.
The Eagles round out their 2019 roster with the following freshman: forward DJ McElroy (Richland), midfielder Morrison Hashii (Osaka, Japan), defender Anthony Bunch (Ridgeland), midfielder Kenneth Thompson (Crystal Springs), midfielder Joseph Cumberland (Gulfport), defender Carson Collier(Vicksburg), and defender Lucas Morales (Santiago, Chile).
The Eagles won their first scrimmage game against Meridian Community College 5-2 and have one more scrimmage left to play this Saturday, August 17 at home against Delta State University (DSU). Game time for the DSU scrimmage is set for 7:00 p.m.
