The Hinds Community College Lady Eagles soccer team is set to open their season today (Thursday, Aug. 22) against the Jones College Lady Bobcats at home on Tom Sheppard Field at 5 p.m.
This begins the programs’ second year under head coach Brandon Mitchell, who led the Lady Eagles to their best record and first playoff berth since 2015 in just his first season at the helm.
Joining the coaching staff this year is Lydia Sutcliffe. Sutcliffe, a Brighouse, England native, comes to Hinds as an assistant after spending three years at the University of West Alabama as an assistant coach and four years as a player.
The 2019 Lady Eagles will return six sophomore players including four players who proved to play key roles last year as freshmen.
Of those returning, Tori Harvey, a sophomore from Brandon, is poised to be a vital member of the Lady Eagles team this year. Harvey scored two goals as a freshman and accumulated the second most shots on the team (21) while starting 11 of 13 games in 2018.
With a healthy amount of experience and leadership, this Lady Eagles team is set to compete for a MACJC North Division title and hopes to make a run at a state championship.
