The Hinds Eagles soccer program captured their third victory in as many games last night (Sept. 17) as they took down the Southwest Mississippi Community College (SMCC) Bears 4-3.
“I thought we played well as a whole. I was most pleased with the fact that we were able to use our entire roster this game. The extreme heat has definitely played a factor recently, so the ability to play everyone and keep everyone fresh is crucial moving forward,” said head coach Doug Williams.
Andrew Klinck (Southaven) started off the scoring for the Eagles as he found the back of the net in the 12th minute.
Lucas Morales (Santiago, Chile) then added to the Hinds lead with a goal of his own in the 30th minute, which came off of a penalty kick.
Just a few minutes later, Morrison Hashii (Tottori, Japan) capped off a 15-pass possession with a goal of his own in the 33rd minute.
SMCC responded with two goals of their own in the 70th and 74th minute, which cut the Hinds lead to just 3-2.
The Eagles answered right back when Justin Phipps (Madison) added an insurance goal in the 85th minute.
SMCC pushed one more goal past the Hinds keeper in the 87th minute, but Hinds would hold their 4-3 lead the remainder of the game securing them their third straight victory.
The Hinds Eagles (4-2-1, 3-1) will hit the road this Friday (Sept. 20) to take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs (5-3, 2-2) in Perkinston. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
