RAYMOND – Three Hinds Community College track and field standouts, Ockera Myrie (Westmoreland, Jamaica), Kurt Powdar (Chesapeake, Va.), and Kristopher Moore (Clinton), signed their National Letters of Intent to continue their careers at big-time National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I programs today (Nov. 11) in front of friends and family.
Ockera Myrie inked her name with the Clemson University Tigers. “Myrie is an extremely talented young lady who is a two-time All American for us. I am especially proud of her for handling her business in the classroom as she is an international student from Jamaica,” said head coach Reginald Dillon.
Kurt Powdar signed with the University of Florida Gators. “Powdar is probably one of the best if not the best hurdler we have ever had at hinds. This year we expect him to continue to grow as a hurdler as well as help up in other events such as the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay,” commented Dillon.
Kristopher Moore signed with the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. “Moore has had a great pre-season this fall that has enabled him to achieve his goal of signing with a NCAA DI program. He was injured last year and wasn’t able to compete, but we look forward to watching him succeed this upcoming spring,” stated Dillon.
All three track stars are scheduled to compete this spring for Hinds and then graduate in May before they transition to their respective four-year universities.
