The Clinton High School Alumni Association (CHSAA) recently named its 2022 scholarship winners. This year is the 22nd consecutive year that CHSAA has awarded scholarships to graduating Clinton High School seniors.

Abigail Vargheese

“Go Arrows” Service Award

The 2022 “Go Arrows” Service Award winner is Abigail Vargheese, who plans to attend Rice University and major in biology, seeking to combine her interest in science and serving others through her ultimate goal of becoming a pediatric physician, and possibly working on an international scale. Her priorities include family, faith and a determination to reach her goals.
One of Vargheese’s teachers described her as having “a wonderful attitude…exhibiting an excellent work ethic…approachable and friendly.” In short, “a wonderful representative of Clinton High School and the Alumni Association.”

Allison Poole

Sarah Denman Satcher Scholarship

The Sarah Denman Satcher Scholarship was established in 2016 and is awarded annually to a graduating senior who will major in nursing. This year’s recipient is Allison Poole, who will be a freshman at Mississippi College majoring in nursing. Her passion for “helping those around me” was inspired by her grandmother’s numerous hospital stays. Those encounters caused her to “think about all the people that I would be able to help if I were to be in that setting every day.” After some research, Poole decided that becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) was the path which would allow her to contribute in this way.
Poole was described by one teacher as “one of the most accomplished students” and “an amazingly well-rounded young woman.”

Aaliyah Keys

Ida Hope Thornton Scholarship

The Ida Hope Thornton Scholarship was established in 2013 and is awarded to a graduating senior who will be majoring in English, journalism, or an agriculture-related field of study. The 2022 receipient is Aaliyah Keys. She will be attending Mississippi State University majoring in animal and dairy science, with a concentration in pre-veterinary medicine. Keys hopes to ultimately become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
One of her teachers offered that “Aaliyah’s attitude is what has set her apart” and that she is “one that simply loves to learn and be taught.” Her work at the Mississippi Animal Rescue League has, in the words of another teacher, “allowed Aaliyah to have a realistic knowledge of the veterinary field before entering college by shadowing local veterinarians during their normal workday.”
