By Robert Chapman, Alderman-at-Large
Clinton’s Board of Aldermen meeting opened with a report from Ashley Hammack, Manager of the Olde Towne Depot. She reported that the facility has hosted many events in the calendar year, having close to 1,650 guests since January 2025.
Hammack said the summer events were a success, touching on the train display’s additions, as well as the All Abord Art Gallery and Saturday morning cartoons program. She wanted to also thank the Clinton branch of the Jackson Area Federal Credit Union for being their sponsor for events.
She highlighted holiday events coming in the fall and winter, such as the hanging of snowflakes inside the building, the Christmas card station where citizens can send notes of encouragement to those in local nursing homes, the Santa Claus Crawl, Polar Express Pajama Party, Gingerbread House Competition and more.
Hammack closed out with a spotlight on their 24/7 live streamed Depot Rail Cam that has over 23,500 views and nearly 2,000 hours of watch time.
The Board of Aldermen took up the approval of the various advisory committees, ensuring committees such as the Planning and Zoning committee as well as the Parks and Rec committee are fully staffed and ready to meet in the near future.
Police Chief Ford Hayman presented the board with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City and the Clinton Public School District, where CPSD will take on the responsibility of paying the salary for a crossing guard.
The Board approved the motion to advertise for bids for sewer replacement projects on Pinehaven Drive and East College Street, and approved the final payment to a 2024 Natural Resources Conservation Service (NCRS) bank stabilization improvement project.
The Board accepted bids for the Municipality and County Water Infrastructure (MCWI) force main improvement project for $56,500, tasked to relocate a 3” water main.
The Board of Aldermen approved the hiring of an uncertified booking officer for the Clinton Police Department and approved the hiring of two fire fighters, as well as the hiring of a Hayes Nix as Clinton Fire Department’s new training officer.
Finally, in other business, the Board approved the close out of a project on Quail Hollow, approving the final payment presented.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Space will be provided in each issue of The Clinton Courier to the Board of Aldermen for a recap of each meeting. Aldermen are asked to volunteer to provide this recap for the Courier.
