Wood Activity Center

The Wood Activity Center will host Living Young (50+) Spirit Week the week of August 29 through September 2.

The activities will kick off on Monday, August 29, with a potluck meal at 11:30 a.m. All dishes, homemade or bought, are welcomed. There will be a fellowship period, and then the Salvation Army will give a presentation about the services they provide that may put money back in the pockets of attendees. Those who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by August 22.

Tuesday will feature a Watermelon Crawl Dance at 1:30 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to don their favorite Wood Center shirt and their dancing shoes for a fun and free dance social.

Competitive games will be paired with light refreshments on Casino Day, Wednesday, August 31, at 1:30 p.m. Chips will be provided, and no money is needed, but those who want to try their luck are asked to RSVP by August 19.

Thrifty shoppers have a special day set aside for them on Thursday, with a Thrifty Friends Social set for 1:30 that afternoon – with a catch: attendees will be purchasing outfits for each other to wear from a thrift store of their choice. Names will be drawn at random for shopping assignments, with a recommended maximum of $10 spent on each outfit, which can be shirt, pants, or a combination of both. RSVP is requested by August 12.

Friday, September 2, brings a Team Spirit Tailgate from 11 a.m. til 1 p.m. Team colors are encouraged for fun indoor tailgating at the Wood Center. Food, games and more will be featured, and contributions of party foods like sandwiches, meatballs, Rotel and sweet treats are invited. Friends and an RSVP are requested.
Other upcoming activities at the Wood Center include exercise classes; painting, dancing, quilting, craft and music workshops; coffee and lunch events; card, ping pong, bingo and game time; educational seminars; model-building; pen pals and a birthday social.

Spirit Week

The month of September will also bring a Living Young Art Exhibit, decorating the Wood Center’s walls with beautiful and intricate works of art from Living Young artists. The Art Exhibit will include hand-crafted pieces, such as crossstitching, quilts, oil and acrylic paintings and more that have been completed in Living Young craft workshops; and other contributions are also welcomed. To contribute to the exhibit, drop by the Wood Center before September 1 to do so. The exhibit will open on Tuesday, September 6, with works on display throughout the month of September.

In addition, the Living Young Travelers will be spending five days and four nights in the Smoky Mountains for Christmas, with a trip planned for December 5-9 to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. For details, an itinerary or to sign up, call the Clinton Therapeutic Recreation Department at 601-924-6387. The Wood Activity Center is located at 111 Clinton Boulevard.
