Mississippi Department of Revenue to host career fair

The Mississippi Department of Revenue will host a career fair at 500 Clinton Center Drive on November 9, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Department of Revenue will be hiring for Auditor I and Revenue Specialist I/Revenue Officer I and will be conducting on-site interviews, so attendees are encouraged to dress for an interview and bring copies of resumes and official transcripts.
Entry-level auditors may be responsible for initiating contact with taxpayers concerning audits of various tax types; the application of knowledge of professional accounting principles as well as state tax laws, regulations and policies in the performance of tax audits; preparing audit reports; making additional tax assessments or refunds of various tax types based on data provided by taxpayers and audit procedures used; communicating audit results with taxpayers; and representing the Department of Revenue in appeals of tax audits. The position could also perform accounting functions, which could include the disbursement of agency funds in accordance with approved policies and procedures; divert tax collections in compliance with State laws, rules and regulations; interpret fiscal, tax and employment legislation while acting as fiscal advisor to agency administrators; and administer employee compensation and benefit plans. Some in and out of state travel may be required. Preferred qualifications are a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in accounting or related field with twenty-four hours of accounting.
Revenue Specialist I/ Revenue Officer I responsibilities may include reviewing and processing tax returns, vehicle titles or other documents and information to verify accuracy and/or correct errors; processing applications; assisting taxpayers with payments, returns, applications and general tax information; reviewing reports for discrepancies; purchasing of materials, supplies, and equipment; performing entry level clerical accounting functions; providing support as an administrative assistant; a d other tasks as assigned. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or high school diploma. or high school equivalency and four years of experience.
The campus has two entrances, but signs for career fair parking will be posted.
