More parking spots will soon be available in the heart of Clinton’s historic district. The Board of Aldermen voted recently to authorize Mayor Phil Fisher to execute a lease agreement with Evans Holdings LLC for eleven parking spaces along the north side of the alley running between Jefferson and Capitol streets in Olde Towne.
The space for the parking lot, consisting of just over 2,000 square feet, has been cleared, and the two-year lease will commence once the parking spaces are completed.
The City will pay $5,000 annually. It’s part of an effort to accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic into Olde Towne where two new restaurant projects are in the works. The City also plans to create parking spaces along Monroe Street and several other brick streets.
“The new parking spaces in the alley, in addition to the spaces regained on Monroe, will go a long way in paving the way for new businesses in Olde Towne,” said Main Street Clinton Director Tara Lytal. “I am thrilled that the City was able to come to an agreement with the Evans brothers to add the parking spaces.”
