Untold History of the Hip-Hop Fashion

The Hip-Hop style or fashion trend began on New York City streets in the 1970s and 80s. In its early period, New York’s B-boy culture mainly conquered fashion in Hip-Hop style. B-Boys were break dancers. They helped to give birth and start the Hip-Hop culture in the early 1970s.

Hip-Hop artists of the era began to promote chains, kangaroo hats, and tracksuits, among other stuff, giving rise to street fashion culture exclusive to New York Hip-Hop sight.

The Run-DMC that are most responsible for establishing and describing the trademark “street” for hip-hop. Run-DMC adopted an Adidas laceless shell-toe Adidas Tracksuit as their fashion uniform. B-Boys styles from New York City inspired this look at this time.

Run-DMC & its Role in Hip-Hop Fashion Industry.

After wearing this street appearance, the Run-DMC group rejected the more catchy styles of initial Hip-Hop, which included DJ Grandmaster Flash and African Bambaataa, in favor of a grittier appearance.

As hip-hop evolved, so did its sense of proclivity and genius implementation. In the 1980s and 90s, hip-hop culture increasingly reflected Black Nationalist sentiment and African heritage rhythmically and aesthetically.

Hip-hop artists who are (so-called) public enemies, such as Queen Latifah and KRS-One, have adopted a more modern appearance, cheerful colors, and dreadlocks related to Black Nationalist engagement: green, yellow, black, and red.
