The Clinton Arrows 2023 Swim Team

The Clinton Arrow Swim Team (CAST) competed in five meets this season. The whole team worked hard to qualify for the North State Meet in Cleveland, Mississippi in October, and ultimately qualified fourteen swimmers for that meet.

The season started with Clinton High School versus Germantown at Cypress Lake Pool in Madison in August. The team had two relays, and four girls and five boys qualified for North State: Ashlee Sumrall (200 free), Ellie Rushing (50 free and 100 free), Sarah Rhodes (50 free and 100 free), Tejasvi Uppu (50 free and 100 free), Reed Watts (100 back), Joshua Ross (50 free), Carson Dowd (50 free), Hayes Montgomery (200 IM and 100 fly) and Spencer Rhodes (50 free). The girls 200 medley relay A and boys 200 free relay A also qualified.

 

In mid-September, the team competed at the GRIT pool against Madison Central. An additional three relays and an additional four girls’ events and four boys’ events qualified for North State. Clara McCombs (50 free) and Abbie Rushing (100 breast), as well as the boys’ 200 medley relay A, the girls’ 400 free relay A, and the boys’ 400 free relay A were added to the list of qualifiers for North State. Also, several swimmers added qualifying events, including Carson Dowd (100 fly), Hayes Montgomery (50 free and 500 free), Reed Watts (50 free), Ashlee Sumrall (100 back) and Ellie Rushing (100 breast).

In late September, CAST competed at Rumble on the River at the Vicksburg City Pool, where Ellie Rushing qualified for North State in the 200 IM.

 

The team’s last chance to qualify for North State was at the St. Andrews invitational at the GRIT pool in Flowood on September 30. Spencer Rhodes qualified in 100 free, Aaron Smith and Riley Parham qualified in 50 free and the girls’ 400 free relay also qualified.

 

The North State Meet was held on October 14 at the Delta State Aquatic Center in Cleveland.

 

State Meet was held on October 20 at the Tupelo Aquatic Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

 

Both girls and boys 200 free and 200 medley relays qualified. Carson Dowd qualified in the 50 free and 100 fly. Hayes Montgomery qualified in the 200 IM and 500 free. Ellie Rushing qualified in the 200 IM.

 

The girls’ team finished fourteenth overall at State Meet, winning eighth in the 200 free relay and tenth in the 200 medley relay. Ellie Rushing placed tenth in the 200 IM.

The boys’ 200 free relay included Spencer Rhodes, Aaron Smith, Hayes Montgomery and Carson Dowd.

The boys’ team finished eighth overall at State Meet. The boys’ 200 medley relay and 200 free relay placed eighth. Carson Dowd finished sixth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 fly. Hayes Montgomery placed sixth in the 500 free and seventh in the 200 IM.

The girls’ 200 free relay included swimmers Tejasvi Uppa,Clara McCombs, Ellie Rushing and Sarah Rhodes.

The girls’ 200 medley relay was comprised of swimmers Tejasvi Uppa (backstroke), Abbie Rushing (breaststroke), Ellie Rushing (butterfly) and Sarah Rhodes (freestyle). The girls’ 200 free relay included swimmers Tejasvi Uppa, Clara McCombs, Ellie Rushing and Sarah Rhodes. The girls’ 400 free relay included Clara McCombs, Ashlee Sumrall, Sarah Rhodes and Ellie Rushing.

The boys’ 200 medley relay included Spencer Rhodes (freestyle), Reed Watts (back), Hayes Montgomery (breaststroke) and Carson Dowd (butterfly).
