The Clinton High School (CHS) volleyball team started regular-season practices on Monday, July 22.

Entering a new season, the Lady Arrows experienced a positive stretch of summer-league scrimmages in June and look to a reinforced roster that gives them hope that an improved 2024 regular season is forthcoming.

Head Volleyball Coach Autumn Frost says she sees her mixed roster of young, talented players and several veteran leaders heading toward an optimistic future this fall. Summer league games played at Infinity Volleyball Club in Flowood against local opponents such as Brandon High School and Pearl High School showed the second-year head coach that her team could be ready for competition.

“We did pretty well against Brandon, one of the top teams in the area, and Pearl, to name a few,” Frost said about the summer-league scrimmages. “The fact we were able to keep up with them while missing some players and have some young players step up was great.”

This season, Clinton looks toward a young group to fill its starting-rotation roles. As they gear up for competition in their volleyball uniforms, three eighth graders and a seventh grader provide potential for growth, while senior leaders like Maelin Cronin boast valuable experience.

“From the beginning of the summer to now, as we start the season, the improvement is incredible,” Frost said. “There are really good things to come.”

Clinton opens the regular season against MHSAA Region 2-7A opponent Murrah High School on Tuesday, August 6, at 6 p.m. in Jackson. Then, the Lady Arrows open their home slate against another region opponent, Tupelo High School, on Friday, August 9, at 6 p.m. in the CHS gymnasium. Other home games this month include Germantown High School on Tuesday, August, 13, Starkville High School on Thursday, August 22, and Madison Central High School on Tuesday, August 27.
