Arrow swim team heads into 2024-25 season
Special to The Clinton Courier
The 2024-25 Clinton Arrow swim team includes thirty-four swimmers in grades seven through eleven from Clinton Junior High School, Sumner Hill Junior High School and Clinton High School. The team is under the direction of Coach Marcy Rushing. This is Rushing’s sixth year with the Arrows. Team captains this year are Maddy Breaux and Hayes Montgomery. All swimmers will work to meet the MHSAA Class II qualifying times for the North State Meet on October 5 at Delta State Aquatics Center in Cleveland, Mississippi.
The team will have four meets in its 2024-25 regular season, with one of them being a first-ever Clinton-hosted meet. Their August 17 meet versus Germantown was held at the Cypress Lake Pool, with the Arrows competing against six area swim teams. Both the Arrow women and men placed third at the meet. Four of the Arrow relay teams qualified for the North State Meet, and ten individual swimmers qualified in individual events.
September meets include the Clinton Invitational at the Clinton YMCA on September 14, at the Vicksburg City Pool on September 21, and the Last Chance Meet at the Flowood GRIT Pool on September 28.
The top eight individuals and the top eight relays at the North State Meet will qualify for the MHSAA State Meet in Tupelo on October 18.
Rushing says she is excited for the season.
“Last year, we took fourteen swimmers to North State and twelve to State Meet. I hope to exceed that this year,” said Rushing. “We have a young team, and I see opportunity to grow the program.”
