Arrows can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Germantown Friday night

Despite falling to #1 Tupelo on the road on October 25, the Clinton Arrows can clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Germantown Mavericks on November 1 at Gluckstadt.
The Arrows stand 4-4 overall on the season, and 1-1 in Region 2-7 A. The two teams were in the same situation a year ago, but the Mavericks scored late in the fourth period at Arrow Field to win 42-35 to knock Clinton out of postseason play.
Clinton can still possibly get in the playoffs with a loss at Germantown, but it becomes much more difficult.
If Starkville, whom the Arrows defeated 31-22, loses to Madison Central and Tupelo, the Arrows will still have a chance to get in the playoffs. Also, if Clinton loses to Germantown and beats Madison Central in the final regular season game at Arrow Field on November 7, they could still clinch, but it would go to a tie breaker points system.
But if the Arrows beat Germantown, the Arrows are in, regardless of who wins against Madison Central.
“We did not play as bad as the score indicated at Tupelo,” said Arrow first year head coach John Carr. “We did some good things on both sides of the ball, but the game got away from us in the second half. We just couldn’t keep the chains moving on offense. Sure, it is disappointing, because we are a better team than we showed at Tupelo. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that we can secure a playoff birth Friday night at Germantown. That has been our focus all week,” said Carr.
