Inspired by the flora and fauna of the Natchez Trace, artist Sam Beibers will be showing a series of watercolor paintings called “Trace Elements” at the Clinton Visitor Center. The exhibit will run from Thursday, November 14, through Saturday, December 14.  The viewing hours will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.  Holiday hours may vary.

A reception open to the public is planned for Thursday, November 14 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Beibers’ watercolors depict flowers, trees, insects, birds, turtles and even mud puddles formed by tractor tracks. Scenes like these can be seen along the Natchez Trace or on the paths and byways that connect to it. The show will consist of twenty- five plus paintings displaying the artist’s fluent use of prismatic color, and a crispness in the use of light and shadow that is rare in watercolors.

“I hope all who come to see the exhibit are reminded of the beauty and wildness of nature,” says Beibers. “The Natchez Trace is rich in that regard and can be explored and experienced in so many ways. Creating these paintings for the show has been a real joy.”

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, and reared in rural Walls, Mississippi, Beibers developed a rich relationship with nature as a child. His parents encouraged the creative pursuits of Biebers and his sister in music, creative writing and visual arts.

Beibers has lived in Clinton for the last forty-plus years. His job experience has included stints as an illustrator at Mississippi Educational Television; art director at the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Conservation; sixteen years as a fulltime freelancer; creative director for JBHM Education Group; and as exhibits designer at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.

The Clinton Visitor Center is located at 1300 Pinehaven Road near Milepost 89 on the Natchez Trace Parkway. For more details, call 601-924-2221.
