Kay H. Brodbeck, president of the National Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders, presided at the 2024 National Traffic Safety Leadership Conference. She presented an award to the Distinguished Young Woman in Traffic Injury Prevention. Marissa Adcock, co-director of the Northwest Indiana Safe Kids, was awarded for her outstanding work within traffic prevention. The conference was held in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The association’s goal is to serve as a resource to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The national Traffic Safety Leadership Conference included model traffic safety programs, how research translates into practice, and how individuals from many vocations can be advocates for traffic injury prevention. As an association, NAWHSL was founded in 1967 at the time that the precursor of the U.S. Department of Transportation was implemented. It is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization of leaders working nationwide to prevent and reduce deaths and injuries on the nation’s roadways.

Brodbeck is the executive director of Mississippi Safety Services, which provides Defensive Driving Courses in cities across Mississippi. The Defensive Driving courses allow students to gain more knowledge about safety on the road, whether that be behind the wheel or as a passenger. These National Safety Council courses are used by courts for alternative sentencing on traffic offenses, by parents of teens and employers.
