Civic Corner: Board Of Aldermen Meeting Update For The Week Of February 21, 2025

Ricki Garrett alderwoman at largeThe Board of Aldermen met for the first meeting of the month, and, after approving the consent agenda, heard a report from Tara Lytal, Director of Main Street.  Director Lytal gave an overview of Main Street, including its history and structure as a quasi-government city department with city employees but run as a 501(c)3 with a board of directors.  She reported that Main Street provides a variety of activities, including markets, dinner & a movie, a car show, a welcome event for MC students, a caterpillar parade and more.  Main Street is working to develop the Main Street development area including Olde Towne and Clinton Boulevard with strategic planning and promotion of business opportunities.

 

In one of its first actions of the evening, the Board of Aldermen voted to table the appointment of Vera Watson as a member of the City of Clinton Election Commission.  These appointments are recommended by Mayor Fisher and voted on by the Board of Aldermen.  The Board then voted to approve to surplus a 2002 Ford 150 truck used by a Main Street/Visitor Center part time employee.

 

In other business, the Board of Aldermen approved the Clinton Police Department to enter a one-year contract with Insight LPR (License Plate Readers) for the purpose of leasing 17 lanes of traffic for $41,000.00.  the Board also approved to enter a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Insight LPR, LLC for the purpose of sharing and accessing LPR detection data and or “Hotlist” data.

 

The Board also approved for the Clinton Police Department to accept as city property and sell a 2018 F350, declared city property by court order. In further action, the Board approved for the Clinton Police Department to enter a 12-month contract with Metro Mechanical Building Services for four quarterly service appointments related to CPD’s HV AC systems for $3,568.00.

 

In response to a request by the Clinton Fire Department, the Board approved to fix the roof of Station 3 on Northside Drive and replace gutters. An approval in the amount of $27,191.00 to WGK for design phase services in determining the needs of restructuring soccer fields 10 and 11 was provided. Also, the Board was pleased to accept a donation in the amount of $57,000 from PATH Company to be put toward new baseball scoreboards at Traceway Park.

 

The Board of Aldermen also approved to request activation for the recently awarded Federal Transportation Alternative project to construct a sidewall along a portion of College Street.  They also gave consideration and approval of the Professional Services Agreement with WGK for the preliminary engineering services required for this project.   Also, the overlay of Springridge Road and Clinton Boulevard moved forward with the approval of the Construction and Engineering and Inspection (CE&I) contract for the project.  Approval was also awarded, upon receipt of concurrence from MDOT, to advertise for bids for the 2024 STBG (Surface Transportation Block Grant) pavement improvements.

 

In hiring action, the Board of Aldermen approved to hire a Deputy Court Clerk for Court Services and a Concrete Superintendent for the Clinton Public Works Department.

 

The Board then went into Executive Session and fired a city employee.
