Nature Day set for Saturday, April 26

The celebration of nature is the constant theme at the Clinton Community Nature Center (CCNC), with one special day each year – Nature Day – that amps up the focus even more.

This year’s Nature Day activities are scheduled for Saturday, April 26, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 1 p.m., with a goal of helping all ages to appreciate, enjoy and study nature. An earlier start will have 5K walk/ruck participants beginning their adventures at 8 a.m.

CCNC Co-Directors Sabrina Hagerman and Claire Floyd recently released a full schedule, which features a nature-friendly lineup of displays, fashion, animal shows and music planned to make this year’s Nature Day memorable. The free, fun-filled day will also include wildlife specialists, live bluegrass music, local artists, and a variety of crafts and interactive activities.

Lectures and presentations begin at 9 a.m. and will feature topics such as snakes and other animals, native plant gardening and a bird show. Presenters from The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science and the National Park Service will be on hand to share their expertise, as well. The Brown Bag Pickers will provide music beginning at11 a.m., and a fashion show from 12:30 to 1 p.m. will feature ecofriendly clothing.

“Local food trucks and Coach’s Creamery will be available throughout the day,” said the co-directors. “We hope everyone will take part in this special time. The celebration of nature is our constant theme at the Nature Center, with Nature Day activities emphasizing the beauty of nature and highlighting conservation.  There should be something for every age to appreciate and enjoy.”

The Nature Center features miles of walking trails, along with a play forest, mud kitchen, splashing frog water feature, amphitheater and native plants.  Price Hall offers an indoor site for events and programs.

A non-profit organization, the Nature Center relies on supporters, volunteers and memberships.
