The New Bourbon Street Jazz Band to perform April 25 at Visitor Center

Special to The Clinton Courier

The New Bourbon Street Jazz Band

The New Bourbon Street Jazz Band

The New Bourbon Street Jazz Band, a nine-piece band playing traditional New Orleans Jazz music, will perform on Friday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. at Friday Nights at Milepost 89.

The most distinctive feature of New Orleans Jazz is collective improvisation, where all musicians play embellishments simultaneously.  This style fosters a sense of community and showcases the creativity of each musician.

The band members include Randy Dickerson on trumpet, Bob Pilcher on trombone, Dr. James Sclater on clarinet, Todd Bobo on tenor sax, Ron Welch on banjo, Bruce Carter on drums, Steve Kincaid on bass, Craig Tucker on piano, and Jeff Reynolds on guitar. Many of the members have been playing in the band for more than thirty years.

Some of the songs likely to be played will be “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “What a Wonderful World,” “Bei Mir Bist Du Schon,” “Struttin with Some Barbeque,” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”  The band plays regularly at Hal & Mal’s on the first and Third Wednesdays of every month and also for private events.

Friday Nights at Milepost 89 is the third Friday of the month at the Clinton Visitor Center. This month’s performance is on the fourth Friday night, due to Good Friday services. Admission to each performance is at least eighty-nine cents and collections go to the musicians.

The Visitor Center is located at 1300 Pinehaven Road at Milepost 89 on the Natchez Trace Parkway. For more details, call 601-924-2221.
