Pickleball complex may open in August

By Randy Bell

Pickleball enthusiasts in Clinton can look toward the second week in August to step onto the new courts at Kids Towne Park for the first time – but it depends in large part on the weather.

“We could have some rainy days that could put us back even farther,” says Parks and Recreation Director Courtney Nunn.

Construction of the new pickleball complex, which includes eight courts, a pavilion, restrooms and a concession stand, has seen some unexpected delays.

“We are about twenty-three working days behind, because of all the weather that has come in, as well as the extra dirt work that needed to be done,” Nunn says.  “The old [tennis court] foundation was just giving out on u,s and we knew if we wanted some lasting pickleball courts, we needed to start all over and get some new dirt in there that was going to hold up.”

Nunn says the pavilion, restrooms and concession stand are taking shape.

“So, now they’re going to focus on the pickleball [court] surfacing.  Once that’s all going in the right direction, then they’ll get back on the pavilion.”

But even if the courts are finished first, pickleball players will have to wait until the entire project is completed.

“We won’t be able to open anything until all the construction is done,” Nunn says.

The City will do final inspections before allowing the public to begin using the new facilities.
