The Allison Jenkins Trio to perform July 18 at Friday Nights at Milepost 89

The Allison Jenkins Trio will perform on Friday, July 18, at 6:30 p.m. The trio’s music is a mixture of jazz and singer-songwriters music from Cole Porter’s “Night and Day” to Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.” The trio members are Allison Jenkins, Tim Avalon and Tyler Kemp.
Alley Marshanne Jenkins has been making music since she was a little girl and sings, plays piano and guitar, and teaches music. She enjoys making music in a plethora of genres. She writes and performs an eclectic mix of jazz music, as well as contemporary, opera, musical theater and everything beyond.
Tim Avalon, a legendary Mississippi musician, is a composer, performer and music teacher. He launched his career at the age of thirteen, thanks to his “Aunt Vangie,” who gifted him with his first guitar. He says it was the beginning of a lifelong love-affair with music. Since that time, Avalon has engaged with a number of diverse musical traditions including rock and roll, rhythm and blues, Celtic, swing, bluegrass, and old-time music. For more than forty years, Avalon has taught at The Avalon School for Stringed Instruments, inspiring students of all ages. He teaches guitar, fiddle, banjo and mandolin.
Tyler Kemp is a pianist, collaborator, educator and music director based in Jackson. He is known for artistry and creativity in a wide range of styles, and is masterful in classical, musical theatre, jazz, pop and worship genres. He maintains an active performance calendar as a soloist and music director throughout the southeast, including multiple solo appearances with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra last season. He works in the music faculty at Mississippi College, where he directs the MC Worship Collective. Kemp also serves as worship director at Bellwether Church. He earned degrees in piano performance (B.M. and M.M.) from Mississippi College.
Friday Nights at Milepost 89 is held the third Friday of the month at the Clinton Visitor Center. Admission to each performance is at least eighty-nine cents and collections go to the musicians.
