Churches mobilize for CPC LifeWalk

Momentum is building for Saturday, April 25, where hundreds are expected to gather at Trustmark Park in Pearl for the annual CPC Life Walk, the largest fundraising event for the Center for Pregnancy Choices (CPC Metro).

LifeWalk is not a competitive race, like a 5K. Instead, it is a fundraising event that brings together churches, families and supporters from across the Jackson metro area who believe every life is worth protecting and supporting. The fundraising season begins in March and culminates with the LifeWalk celebration on April 25.

CPC Metro is widely regarded as “the Church and community’s response to the ongoing abortion crisis in the Jackson Metro area.” Organization officials say “many assumed the overturning of Roe v. Wade would dramatically reduce abortions, but the reality is more complicated. In recent years, mail-order abortion pills have become increasingly common, with the pills being shipped discreetly and often offered through ‘pick-your-price’ online policies. As a result, abortion remains a significant issue affecting women and families across the country.”

CPC Metro says it approaches this challenge by offering free pregnancy testing, sonograms, abortion education and decision counseling, so that women facing unplanned pregnancies can make more informed decisions about their future.

“When women understand their options and receive compassionate support, many consider parenting or adoption instead of abortion,” said CPC Metro Executive Director Erin Kate Goode.

The organization says it also emphasizes being “pro-life” in a broader sense, not merely “pro-birth.”

“Clients are offered ongoing support through parenting classes, baby and toddler supplies, and scholarship assistance. These services are designed to create a community where women and families know they are not alone,” continued Goode.

CPC Metro’s prevention programs offer mentorship to middle and high school students, promoting healthy decision-making and goal setting. The organization also offers abortion recovery services, providing counseling and community for those experiencing regret after a past abortion, regardless of how long ago it occurred.

All of these efforts are powered in large part by the Life Walk. CPC Metro says that sixty-seven churches across the Jackson area have registered teams to participate, each committing to gather at least ten fundraising walkers.
