Kacey K. Gladney of Clinton (center) was recently honored by local VFW Post 3685 for an essay submitted to the Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy awards.

Each year, students from the area are asked to submit essays focused on their thoughts on patriotism and democracy. Winners received a certificate and a check for their educational needs.

Post Commander Don Malin and Post Quartermaster Danny Williams presented the awards. Gladney (center) was awarded the first place Voice of Democracy pin. Other winners included Harmoni M. Ray from Reimagine Prep School, who received the Patriots Pen award, and Englin-Amari Conrod from Terry High School, who received the second place Voice of Democracy award.
