Lenoir completes Girl Scout Gold Award project
Special to The Clinton Courier
Willow Lenoir, an upcoming junior at Clinton High School (CHS), is a Senior Girl Scout with Troop 3340 in Clinton. She is currently working toward earning her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor achievable in Girl Scouts.
As a cross country runner since seventh grade, Lenoir says she wanted her Gold Award project to reflect her involvement in the sport while addressing a need within the community. Project Brown Bridge focused on repairing an unsafe and heavily used bridge on the school’s cross country trail. This improvement was especially important because CHS hosts one of the largest cross country meets in the state, bringing many runners and spectators to the course each year.
The project included repairing and repainting the bridge, restoring the surrounding area and creating a small rock garden featuring encouraging messages painted on stones for runners. Lenoir says she the efforts enhanced safety, supported environmental preservation and provided a long lasting positive impact for all who use the trail.
The project took over one hundred hours to complete, and Lenoir offered special thanks to Coach Marret for being her Project Advisor and donations made from Revell Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Schoggen Scapes, and Jackson Stone. The project was fully funded by their donations.
