Civic Corner: Board of Aldermen Recap

The Clinton Board of Aldermen started the July 7 meeting with the Mayor reading a proclamation of July as Parks and Recreation Month as well as an acknowledgement of the City of Clinton’s Therapeutic Recreation Department winning the Community Health award for the Living Young Program.
The Board entered the Action and Discussion portion of the meeting granting a five-year exemption from Ad Velorem taxes to Gulf State Canners for their 2021 and 2025 expansions.
The Board granted similar five-year Ad Velorem exemptions for McNeely Plastics for their 2021 and 2025 expansions.
The Board approved the purchase of a budgeted Toro Reelmaster Mower for the Parks and Recreation Department.
The Board approved a revised preliminary plat for Horseshoe Bend’s second phase. Due to wetland concerns, the development moved from 320 lots to 284 lots.
The Board approved two conditional uses to allow for a short-term rental on Meadowick Drive and Jefferson Street in Olde Towne.
The Board took action on seven unkempt properties before approving the hiring of four new employees and promote three other city employees.
In an executive session, the Board took a vote to suspend an employee without pay for one shift.
