During a special called board meeting, the Clinton Public School District’s (CPSD) Board of Trustees approved Dr. Ivory Gray as Clinton Junior High School’s (CJHS) next principal.

Dr. Gray will replace Tamikia Billings, who will serve as CPSD’s director of student assessment and student services.

“We are excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Gray as the newest addition to our school leadership team,” said CPSD Superintendent Dr. Andy Schoggin.

Dr. Schoggin said that, in Gray’s time with the school district, he has fully embraced CPSD’s commitment to excellence and has dedicated himself to the qualities and expectations of the school district.

“We have full confidence that his collaborative efforts with the exceptionally talented teachers and staff at Clinton Junior High School will continue the environment where every student can thrive,” Schoggin added.

“I am honored for the opportunity to serve as principal and continue building upon the Arrow standard that is paramount to the school and to the district’s tradition of success,” Gray said. “Clinton is a special place, filled with amazing people and extraordinary educators.”

Gray currently serves as assistant principal at Clinton Park Elementary, a position he’s held since 2022. Prior to his time at Clinton Park, he served as principal at Crystal Springs Middle School in Copiah County.

Gray began his educational career in the Jackson Public School District (JPS) in 2007 as a sixth-grade teacher and basketball coach at Powell Middle School. He spent eight years with JPS, teaching sixth through eighth grade prior to accepting his first assistant principal position at Meridian High School.

Gray served as assistant principal at Bolton-Edwards Elementary Middle School from 2016 through 2020.

In December of 2023, Gray completed his Doctorate of Education at Mississippi College and was also named CPSD’s Administrator of the Year.

With seventeen years of educational experience, Gray expressed that his diverse educational experiences have given him the opportunity to collaborate with others in order to reach a common goal of increasing student achievement.

“I truly believe all students can learn,” Gray said. “As instructional leaders, it is our responsibility to give them a supportive and positive learning environment with an encouraging staff and community.”

Gray will assume principal duties at CJHS on July 1, 2024.
