Cameron Thomas named chief of Institute for Systems Engineering Research at ERDC’s IT Laboratory

Cameron Thomas, a native of Clinton, has been named chief of the Institute for Systems Engineering Research (ISER) Branch, part of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Information Technology Laboratory (ITL).
ISER researches, develops and applies advanced systems engineering and operations research methods to deliver cost-effective engineering solutions. ISER’s current programs align with the thrust areas of mission engineering, installation modernization, AI/ML analytics and civil works decision support.
Thomas joined ERDC in 2010 as a research civil engineer in the ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory, where he supported several projects, including serving as the principal investigator for the Forensic Encyclopedia Results Retrieval and Evaluation Tool- or FERRET.
In that role, his responsibilities included coordinating the transfer of classified weapons systems to the ERDC Test Facility and executing a detailed and complex test matrix. He led the team that collected all chemical, physical and photographic data generated during test events.
Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Jackson State University and a master’s in civil engineering from Mississippi State University.
