Attaché concludes competition season
The Clinton Courier
Clinton High School’s Attaché Show Choir continued its historic winning streak recently with another Grand Champion performance after competing against strong programs from Illinois and other northern states.
Attaché traveled north to compete at Illinois’ Glenwood High School, where the nationally-recognized group faced one of its toughest matchups of the season against the Swingsations from Mt. Zion High School in Illinois and eight other high schools.
Mt. Zion has built a strong reputation in the show choir world and entered the competition with significant momentum this season, already earning Grand Champion honors at two events. The Swingsations program has consistently performed at a high level for nearly a decade, with at least one first-place finish every year dating back to 2016.
Despite the tough field, Attaché once again rose to the top.
In preliminary competitions, Attaché secured a spot in finals and was also awarded Best Band and High School Best Treble Soloist in a Show (Emory Crenshaw), and Alana Turner was named Best Performer.
The Clinton group extended what has become one of the most remarkable streaks in show choir, maintaining an undefeated run of Grand Champion finishes that dates back to 2014. The last time Attaché finished as first runner-up came more than a decade ago, also during a competition in Illinois. In finals this year in Illinois, Attaché received the Grand Champion, Best Vocals and Best Choreography.
The Illinois victory was the latest in another strong season for the Clinton program.
Attaché opened the competition season at the Homewood South Central Classic in Homewood, Alabama, on February 14, where the group captured Grand Champion, along with Best Vocals and Best Choreography.
The following week, Attaché traveled across the metro to compete in the Jackson Prep Show Choir Masters on February 21. The event marked the first time in several years that the group had competed locally, giving many Clinton families and community supporters a rare opportunity to see Attaché perform close to home in a competition.
Attaché again swept the competition at Jackson Prep, earning Grand Champion, along with Best Vocals, Best Visuals, Best Show Design, Best Ballad and Best Costumes. Alaina Turner was also named Best Overall Performer at the event.
Attaché’s continued success is guided by executive directors Dave and Mary Fehr, who have led the program for decades and helped establish Clinton as one of the most respected show choir programs in the nation. Under their leadership, Attaché has competed in more than one hundred competitions and built a national reputation for excellence.
The program is supported by director Chance Anderson, pit director Robert Allen, and crew director Deborah Morgan. Other staff includes choreographers Dexter Bishop, Kellis Oldenburg and April James; and technical support Robert Gatewood, Jesse Emling, and Robbie Heath, all of whom play important roles in the musical, technical and performance elements that define the program.
Over the past decade, the group has traveled across the country competing against top-tier programs while consistently bringing home the top award in the mixed division.
Clinton’s show choir program has become a point of pride for the community, drawing large crowds at competitions and showcasing the talent and dedication of Clinton High School students.
Attaché concluded their road trips for the season at the Show Choir Nationals at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, one of the most prestigious stages in country music. Attaché has long served as the official host choir for the national event, which draws elite show choirs from across the country.
Attaché will present its annual Spring Revue April 29 through May 2 in the Clinton High School auditorium. Tickets will go on sale in April. For more information, call 601-924-0707.
