Arrow football has successful spring and summer workouts

The Clinton Arrows had over one hundred players out for spring drills and summer workouts this year.

CHS is preparing for the 2026 season that opens up at Warren Central on August 28.

Clinton finished 4-6 in 2024, and again in 2025, and hopes to make the playoffs this season for the first time since 2022.

Fall drills were set to begin with practices in shorts and pads on August 3.

The Arrows return a lot of starters on offense, but graduation depleted almost the whole starting lineup on defense.

“We spent the spring looking at a lot of players vying to start this fall on defense,” said second-year head coach Hamer Morgan. “We’ve got some guys that played a lot of snaps but will be inexperienced in some positions.  We have a lot of our offense back, but will have some new faces and more depth this season.”

The Arrows did not participate in a spring game against another opponent, but held an inter- squad spring game in late May that Morgan said was successful.

“We got to see a lot of guys on film that are vying for a start this year,” said Morgan. “We’ve still got a lot of work to do between now and the first game on August 28 to figure out our best players to put on the field in the first game.”

CHS spent the summer with regular summer workouts, including early weight lifting, running, and 7-on-7 competition against some of the top teams in the state.

Clinton took bus trips to East Central Community College, Mississippi State University and Hinds Community College. At ECC and MSU, the entire team was involved, including the line, with drills and the wide receivers and quarterbacks and defense in 7-on-7 games against good competition. The clinic at Hinds was just 7-on-7 competition for the offense and defense.

“We worked a lot this summer on discipline and getting in better shape,” said Morgan. “We will start putting in our offense and defense and evaluating every position starting on August 3.”
