Three of Clinton’s public schools will have new leadership this fall.
At their April meeting, the Clinton School Board hired new principals for Eastside Elementary School, Clinton Junior High School and Clinton Alternative School.
“Clinton is a great school district and we received a lot of applications for each of these positions,” said Dr. Tim Martin, superintendent of schools. “We are looking forward to continuing our tradition of excellence with the new principals at the helm of their schools.”
The Principal of Eastside Elementary will be Mandy Taylor, who previously worked as assistant principal at Eastside before going to the Rankin County School District in 2016.
Taylor holds a bachelor’s degree in history and special education from Millsaps College, a master’s degree in emotional and behavior disorders and a specialist degree in educational leadership, both from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Eastside is a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School, and in 2013 First Lady Michelle Obama selected the Northside & Eastside Elementary campus as the site to announce her “Let’s Move!” campaign anniversary (in conjunction with a taping of the Rachel Ray TV show). Its faculty, staff and students have won numerous awards and grants in recent years for health and wellness, academic achievement and community involvement.
Taylor replaces longtime Eastside Principal Cindy Hamil, who is retiring.
The principal of Clinton Junior High will be Tamikia Billings, who is currently serving as assistant principal at CJHS. She has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Prior to her work in Clinton, Billings worked in Vicksburg Warren School District, Pearl Public School District and Canton Public School District, in elementary, middle and high school. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Alcorn State University, a Master’s Degree in secondary education from Belhaven University, a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College and she is currently pursuing a doctorate degree at MC.
“I am honored and humbled to have this amazing opportunity to continue working with our excellent faculty, staff, parents, students and community,” she said. “I am looking forward to continuing the expectation of excellence that has been established at Clinton Junior High School. I am thrilled to be a part of this excellent school and community. I look forward to a wonderful 2019-20 school year.”
The principal of Clinton Alternative School will be Charles King, who is currently serving as an assistant principal at Clinton High School. King is replacing Kelly Heath who is retiring.
King holds a bachelor’s degree from Hannibal Lagrange College in Missouri, a master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a specialist degree from Liberty University in Virginia.
Prior to coming to Clinton in 2017, he worked at schools in Pascagoula, Lauderdale County, Laurel, Wayne County, and Washington County, Ala.
“I want to thank Dr. Martin and the Clinton School Board for giving me this opportunity,” he said. “I have enjoyed my two years at CHS. The teachers, staff and students are amazing. I am also very excited about the opportunity to be the next principal at Clinton Alternative School. We will continue to do our part to make the Clinton Public School District the best it can be, ‘Where Excellence is the Only Option.’”
