School Resource Officer gets New Ride!

When one thinks of a police car, the color red is not the first thing that comes to mind. Most think of backing the blue and blue lights.

In a break from tradition and in a nod to the deep relationship that the Clinton Public Schools has with the City of Clinton, the Clinton Police Department recently unveiled a new Arrow themed red police car.

The 2019 Dodge Charger features a red paint scheme, black striping, Arrowhead logos and a black hood featuring an Arrow with “Clinton Arrows” in block script. This new SRO vehicle joins two other Public Safety vehicles outfitted in Clinton Arrow themes.

Fire Engine 4 and the SRO pickup truck each feature designs that highlight the powerful connection that the Clinton Arrows have with the community.

A part from looking good, the vehicle designs help facilitate the mission of our School Resource Officers in protecting students and staff while also building relationships of trust between our next generation of leaders and law enforcement.

Currently, the City of Clinton provides two School Resource Officers to the Clinton Public School District.

According to the Mississippi Department of Education, school resource officers play an integral role in safety and education of students.

“Safe schools are fundamental to students’ school successes and achievements. Consequently, providing a safe and orderly school environment remains an ever-present priority of the Mississippi Department of Education’” stated the MS. Dept. of Education website.

School safety should be addressed through a comprehensive approach that focuses on prevention, intervention and response planning. Systems and programs should be in place that create caring school communities where all students and staff feel safe and supported. Key to the process of building and maintaining safe schools is the development of active partnerships between schools and communities.

Keep an eye out for the new SRO vehicles and remember that they are more than cars, they are tools for building a safer community.
