Three Brilla Soccer Players Among Top Prospects
By Datti Jinkiri
Through eight matches played, one would say that Mississippi Brilla FC’s USL League Two season has been a successful one. The team has a 5-1-2 record and sits in second place in the Mid South Division. On top of this, the team has now seen three of its players earn individual recognition. Midfielder Jalen James, defender Jake Morris, and midfielder/defender Arturo Astorga each reclaimed their spots in the USL League Two’s second top prospects list.
Every two weeks, USL League Two releases a list of its top 50 players. The list is built by the organization’s scouting network in collaboration with conference directors. James, Morris, and Astorga each made appearances on the first list and reclaimed their spots in this current one.
James is the team’s second-leading scorer this season with four goals. He is also tied for the team lead with two assists. The Grand Prairie, Texas native plays his college soccer at Campbell University in North Carolina.
Morris is another Campbell University product. He made five starts in five appearances in Brilla’s defense. He tallied an assist in the team’s 5-2 home victory against Houston FC.
Astorga is currently in his second season with Brilla. The El Paso, Texas native has made four starts in four appearances this season, scoring one goal and assisting on another in the process. His lone goal was the game-winner in the win over Houston FC.
Mississippi Brilla FC will be back in action on Saturday night. Texas United, a team who handed Brilla its only loss, will be the opponent. As with all Brilla games this season, admission will be free. Kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m at Clinton High School, and the match will be livestreamed for those who will not be able to attend.
