Cloud vs On Premise: Which is Better

When it comes to storing data and running applications, businesses get two options: Cloud and Premise. Both options provide reliable storage and have both pros and cons. The choice between Cloud and Premise depends on your needs. To choose the best option, you should know everything about these solutions. Here, we will discuss the key role and key differences between Cloud and Premise to help you choose the best one for you.  Let’s have a look!

What is Cloud Solutions?

Cloud solutions deliver data over the Internet. With the cloud, businesses can access their data from anywhere with the Internet. It provides a reliable and flexible solution for businesses and also helps with scalability. Some of the cloud-based services are Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform.

What is Premise?

Unlike the Cloud, Premise runs solutions on computers that are fully managed by the businesses. This is a traditional system in which the company manages all the hardware and software. These solutions need high investment and regular maintenance.

Differences Between Cloud and Premise

Here are some key differences between Cloud and Premise:

Security

When it comes to security, the Cloud has some risks. As the data is stored over the Internet, Cloud does not give complete security control to the businesses. It also requires heavy investment in technologies to enhance Cloud security. The premise offers reliable security as all the data is stored locally in the computers. Also, businesses should verify that their Cloud providers are following all security protocols.

Control

Cloud manages all data over the internet and reduces the burden on IT professionals. But, it also reduces their control over the data as everything is controlled by an external infrastructure. On the other hand, while using premise businesses have full control over the system and data as all the activities are managed on their physical computing systems. Companies have full control over their hardware and software.

Cost

Cloud solutions work on the subscription model. Businesses buy a subscription plan depending on their needs. However, the premises need a heavy initial investment and regular maintenance costs. So, the Cloud is usually considered budget-friendly.

Deployment

The deployment of Cloud solutions is really easy. As everything is managed online over the internet, it can be set up easily. While premise solutions take more time to set up as everything needs to be set up physically. Although businesses have full control over the deployment process, it takes longer than Cloud solutions.

So, both Cloud and Premise have their own specifications, and the choice between them depends on your needs. If you need more security and control, Premise is best for you. But, if you need easy deployment and budget-friendly solutions, you should opt for Cloud solutions.
