Awards ceremony held for Arrow football team

The Clinton Arrow football team, much improved in 2024, was recently honored at an awards ceremony, held recently at the Clinton High School Auditorium.
Clinton, under first-year head coach John Carr, finished 4-6, with a couple of close losses against arguably the toughest schedule in the state of any classification.
All ten opponents that Clinton played made the playoffs, with two of the Arrows’ opponents winning state championships. Tupelo won the Class 7A title, and Grenada won the Class 6A championship.
A highlight of the season was defeating #1 ranked at the time Brandon 65-62. Clinton also defeated top 5 ranked Starkville and top 15 ranked Warren Central. The Arrows were ranked in the top 25 for three weeks.
Carr thanked parents, grandparents and family members for getting players to practice throughout the summer workouts and the season.
In an effort to improve the Clinton football program, a seventh-grade football team was added this past fall. The new seventh-grade team had 56 participants.
“We really appreciate our administration allowing us to get the seventh-grade program started back up,” said Carr. “We had to play every game on the road to get the program started.
This should really help out our program in the long run.”
Carr also thanked all the assistant coaches.
“All these guys have dual responsibilities helping coach our seventh, eighth, ninth, junior varsity and varsity teams.”
Also recognized were Clinton Arrow eighth-grade and ninth-grade teams.
Prior to presenting this year’s awards, Carr also thanked Tony Howard, president of the Arrow Touchdown Club, for all of the club’s support in funding the team’s needs and providing pregame and postgame meals, as well as First Baptist Church, Clinton, for use of facilities on game day Fridays for pregame meals and devotions.
