Crawfish season offerings expected to be a hit at Red Brick Boil

By Sherry Lucas

The line for crawfish plates was long at last year’s Red Brick Boil, and organizers expect to see the same or increased level of interest at this year’s event.

The Red Brick Boil, a community crawfish boil that’s a tasty highlight of Clinton’s Red Brick Roads Music and Arts Festival, is back at this year’s fest on Saturday, March 28, in Olde Towne.

Its debut last year built on the festival’s core draw and its late summer to spring move. Organizers brainstormed on how to take best advantage of fest’s new spring dates.

“The one thing that goes with a beer competition and live music in March is crawfish,” Clinton Director of Communication and Tourism Marlee Cook-Price said. “And we have a local vendor who is incredibly gifted at boiling crawfish.”

“Last year was good,” T’Beaux’s Crawfish and Catering owner Kelly Ray said of the debut. “I’m just right down the road, so I cook them up and bring them.”

The fest/crawfish combo proved an instant hit, and the delivered 300 pounds of crawfish sold out in 45 minutes, disappearing down the gullets of all the folks lucky enough to get in line first and snap up three-pound crawfish plates before they ran out.

“It was very successful,” Cook-Price said.

Plans are to up the poundage ordered this year. Festival-goers are encouraged to keep in mind that the Red Brick Boil starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at the festival. Organizers recommend those who are interested in snagging a plate of crawfish to adjust line-up plans accordingly.

The Red Brick Roads Music and Arts Festival is jointly produced by the City of Clinton, Clinton Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Clinton.
