Clinton track and field rules Class 7A again with boys-girls state sweep

Excellence remained the standard for Clinton High School track and field on Saturday, May 2, as the Lady Arrows and the Arrows would not be denied as a historic 2026 postseason run that culminated with a sweep of the MHSAA Class 7A State Championships at Pearl High School.

 

The Lady Arrows captured their 13th consecutive girls state title with 146.5 points, while the Arrows climbed back to the top of the podium in the boys meet with 92 points, securing the program’s first boys title since 2024

 

The Clinton track and field teams now boast 17 combined state championships with 13 girls crowns and four boys titles. The program is led by Head Girls and Boys Coach Johnathan Perkins and assisted by Christopher Lockhart, Robert Pittman, Ben Prevost, Thomas Tunberg, and Justice Wells.

LADY ARROWS DOMINATE AGAIN

 

The Lady Arrows were powered by multiple state champions and elite depth across the events.

 

Senior Andraeia Cavett closed her Clinton career in style, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 13.95 seconds, setting a new Class 7A and State record, and the 300-meter hurdles in 45.47 seconds.

 

Khamrin Harper sprinted to the 200-meter state title in 24.28 seconds and also placed fourth in the 100 meters.

 

In the field events, senior Kennedy Williams won the discus with a throw of 122 feet, nine inches, while freshman Jurnee Nash finished runner-up in the same event.

 

Sophomore Tenley Prestwood placed second in the pole vault, while teammate Lilly Wayts finished third.

Clinton also received significant points from Kamiah Mounger, who was runner-up in the 400 meters, Caitlyn Magee, who placed fourth in the 800 meters, and Caroline Henry, who scored in the 3200 meters.

 

The Lady Arrows also shined in the relays, winning both the 4×400-meter relay and 4×800-meter relay and taking third in the 4×100-meter relay.

 

ARROWS RECLAIM THE TOP SPOT

 

The Clinton boys used championship performances and valuable depth to secure the team title.

 

Carter Parks captured the 110-meter hurdles state championship in 14.09 seconds and also scored points in the 300-meter hurdles.

 

Sophomore Jonathan Rockett delivered a massive day in the throws, winning the shot put and placing fourth in the discus.

 

Aiden Knox placed fourth in the 100-meter dash and added points with a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters.

 

Jonah Banks earned runner-up finishes in both the high jump and long jump, Tyboris Loftin, Jr., placed second in the shot put.

 

Nathan Perkins contributed points with an eighth-place finish in the discus, and Anthony Blake added a point in the triple jump.

 

The Arrows also received key scoring efforts from Daniel Dickinson in the pole vault and Jaxcen Williams in the 100 meters.

Clinton’s relay corps added critical points with a runner-up finish in the 4×200-meter relay, third in the 4×800-meter relay, and fourth in the 4×100-meter relay.
