Joe Walker Jr., six-time SEC Coach of the Year in track and field, and Abby Munton Street, chief operating officer of University Hospitals, will receive the Order of the Golden Arrow at MC's Bicentennial Homecoming.

Jacob Derrick has joined the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Mississippi Christian University (MC) as an assistant professor of mathematics, and Myles Melancon has joined the MC School of Business faculty as an assistant professor of business (management).

Daniel Watson, MC associate professor and department chair of mathematics, said Derrick will be a strong addition to the department.

“Jacob is prepared to teach across our entire curriculum, including advanced undergraduate and graduate courses such as Real Analysis, Number Theory, Complex Variables and Differential Equations,” Watson said. “He brings strong research achievement in mathematical modeling, computational analysis and epidemiology, with peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations to his credit. His expertise in Python and MATLAB will be a great asset for involving students in research.

“His blend of high-level scholarship, teaching experience and dedication to student mentorship make him an outstanding addition to our department and campus community.”

Derrick earned his B.S. in mathematics at Blue Mountain College, his Master of Science in Mathematics at the University of Mississippi and his Ph.D. in computational science and applied mathematics at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

A member of the American Mathematical Society, his published research includes “On the Distribution of the Number of Prime Factors of an Integer.”

Marcel Eduardo, MC professor of finance and dean of the School of Business, said Melancon will be an asset to the school.

“We are so excited to have Dr. Melancon join our faculty,” Eduardo said. “Myles is a newly minted Ph.D. and brings to our students the latest research in the discipline. He is one of our graduates, so he certainly understands what makes the MC School of Business a special place.

“I am certain he will be a huge contributor in advancing our mission to provide our students with an exceptional business education in a Christian environment.”

Melancon earned his B.S. in business administration summa cum laude at MC, his M.A. in English at the University of Arkansas, his MBA at Millsaps College and his Ph.D. in business administration-management at Mississippi State University.

A member of the Beta Gamm Sigma Honor Society, he received the Daniel T. Holt Best Paper Award at the 2024 Theories of Family Enterprise Conference.
