Every factory is a little different when it comes to the machinery they need for daily operations. However, you want to have more than enough space to work with when planning the floorplan. For instance, if you have 10,000 square feet to work with, you’ll need to make sure you have space for aisles, forklifts, and so on. In other words, you shouldn’t have machinery that takes up 9,000 square feet; if you do, you’re going to need a bigger building.

Lighting and ventilation

There are plenty of great and efficient lighting options available for industrial facilities. In fact, many of the industrial lighting manufacturers know that factories need energy-efficient lighting because lighting a factory is expensive. That said, you could consider overhead lights that have sensors that only turn on when there’s movement nearby. Alternatively, many facilities use timers to adjust lighting as shifts come and go. Additionally, every facility will need adequate ventilation. Of course, some facilities will need to abide by specific ventilation requirements if they handle chemicals and plastics, for example.

Design specifications

While you’re working in an industrial facility, that doesn’t mean the facility can’t look great. You’ll have to plan basic “housekeeping” design specifications like paint, flooring, windows, and so on. Most facilities will use industrial-grade paints that can withstand the wear and tear of a factory. However, there are several options when it comes to industrial flooring. We’d suggest epoxy or polished concrete. However, polished concrete is your best option for several reasons including design, durability, and easy maintenance.
