There have been many Clinton High School baseball players who have excelled on the baseball diamond, and 2018 graduate Courtland Posey is currently adding his name the list. Posey recently completed his sophomore season at Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) in May.

XULA is a historically black university located in New Orleans that competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). After a nearly a 60-year hiatus, the school restarted its baseball program. Posey, who had featured in the junior college ranks with Hinds and East Central, entered the school as one of its first recruits of the new era.

2021 was the first season that the Gold Rush made their official second resumption, and Posey quickly established himself as a key fixture in the new team. He made 31 starts in 35 appearances during the season and batted .279. He tied for the team lead with eight doubles and was second on the team with two triples. He also scored 29 runs, which was second on the team.

Posey tallied a season-high of three hits on two different occasions in 2021. He reached that mark in games against Loyola and Mississippi University for Women. Posey was also fifth on the team with 41 total bases, and he was tied for second with 24 runs batted in.

Defensively, Posey had a fielding percentage of .953. He also had 37 putouts while playing in the outfield.

With Posey playing a vital role, the Gold Rush had an exceptional first season back, finishing with a 27-11 record. They advanced to the finals of the Black College World Series and just missed out on an NAIA National Tournament berth. Posey had a fantastic debut season with the Gold Rush and will be looking to have an even better season in 2022.
