Businesses can still register for CPD’s Alarm Watch

Local businesses can still take advantage of the Clinton Police Department’s new Alarm Watch program.

Alarm Watch is a police service to improve communications between police, alarm companies and business owners. Businesses are encouraged to enroll in Alarm Watch for the purpose of providing responding police officers with current contact information. This information will facilitate a better delivery of police service concerning their business.

Alarms are an important tool for deterring crime and notifying authorities of potential criminal activities. At the same time, statistics show that a majority of the alarm calls in the city of Clinton are related to improper usage of an alarm or faulty equipment causing false alarms. By registering their system with the Clinton Police Department’s dispatch, businesses enable officers and dispatchers to more quickly assess and contact business owners about an alarm notification.

There are things that business owners can do to cut down on the number of false alarms called in each year.  Alarm sensors need to be installed by professionals.  Any number of things can set off a motion sensor: pets, a resident, items hanging that move when the air conditioner turns on, ceiling fans, reflections, insects or an actual burglar.

Professionals can locate and fix the problems associated with poor placement of sensors or remove items that would activate an alarm.  Doors and windows should be secure so that wind blowing doesn’t cause items to move. Business owners are encouraged to contact their alarm company if they are having problems with their alarm system so that the issue(s) can be resolved as quickly as possible.

Business owners should also make sure that their contact information is current with their alarm company, as well as with the Clinton Police Department, so that law-enforcement officials can contact them in the event there is an actual break-in.

To enroll in the Clinton Police Department Alarm Watch program, complete the form on the City website at www.clintonms.org/alarm.
