Simple Tips That Will Help Prevent Your Car From Being Towed By The Authorities

Car owners should do whatever they can to avoid getting their vehicles towed away by the authorities. These fines can be incredibly costly, and many times completely unplanned. It’s in our best interest to take preventative measures to avoid this from happening. The tips provided below aren’t even that hard to follow, but just applying a few of them will be enough to save you money down the road.

Some Tips to Help Prevent Your Car From Being Towed

Engage Your Vehicle Emergency Brake So That Your Car Remains in One Spot

One of the most effective tips you can use when your car has been towed by the authorities is to engage your vehicle’s emergency brake so that it remains in one spot. If you’re not going to be using your vehicle for an extended period then make sure that you engage the emergency brake. This one allows the tow truck driver to take a little longer to tie up your car, or to tow a vehicle that is easier to tow first.

Park With Your Wheels Turned

This is an advantage for rear-wheel vehicles because to prevent any kind of damage to the transmission of the vehicle, the back wheel will have to be lifted. The front-wheel will then have to be lifted before the car can be towed. According to the professionals from americanwrecker.net/my-vehicle-was-towed/, the upside here is, even if your vehicle will be eventually towed, the tow truck driver will spend a lot of time and will have to employ the use of dollies or he will have to get a flatbed truck. This undoubtedly gives you plenty of time to move your car away and prevent getting towed.

If the wheel locks in the turned spot on you and the key won’t turn to start the engine, you must turn both the steering wheel and the ignition key at the same time to open the lock.

Remove a Tire or Two

Tire removal might sound a bit silly or pointless at first, but it can be an effective way to save your car. In many cases, desperation breeds creativity (sometimes). When you remove a tire or two from your car, it can be quite the challenge for any tow truck driver to move it.

However, you should know that while this method is effective, it can bring attention you may want to avoid, to your vehicle. It could be towed for other reasons like causing obstruction or being a blemish in the neighborhood. This approach, like the others, would be better if a free-spinning (non-drive) wheel was disabled, but it would most likely create a problem on the drive wheels because the tow bar would not work correctly.

Use a Wheel Lock or Tire Lock on a Non-drive Wheel

Just like the other approaches outlined so far, this approach requires the tow truck driver to find a way to lift the vehicle from the ground completely. The advantage for you is that it is likely going to obstruct most brackets and dollies, thereby preventing the tow truck operator from moving your car at all.

Park Tightly Between Other Cars or Objects

Another tip is to create a space around your car with other cars or objects that prevent a truck from pulling up to either the front or back of your vehicle. Avoiding parking between two cars gives the truck driver no choice but to pull up next to your rear end, and if you use this technique, note that if the other cars your vehicle is packed in between are illegally parked, the operator will most likely begin with the ones that are closer before eventually towing yours. So, that is the loophole in this method.

Don’t Park on the Curb

It’s ideal to stop with your tires by simply contacting the control to keep the cart from being put under your tire. Most tow truck plans need there to be a tad of room around the wheel to securely tie down the section or cart to the tire. It is ideal to do this with both the front and rear wheel, yet it is particularly imperative to have one of your drive wheels contacting the check, as these should be taken off the ground to tow the vehicle.

It is never a pleasant experience when your car gets towed. It puts you at the mercy of the operator, who may look to overcharge you, not to mention the inconvenience it could bring. The best advice to avoid being towed is to obey the parking rules of your state.

Trust me there is not one thing to “prevent” me from towing a car if I want to tow it. If I see a vehicle that looks like they used any of these “preventative ” measures trying to keep me from towing it, I’m forgetting all others and im towing it. Best advice I can give is the same as the author …….obeying all parking rules and laws is the only way to prevent you vehicle from costly impound fees.

Dont you love the challenge? And then their sheer anger when they discover they’ve been towed. Its hilarious to watch. One guy tried running over one of our guys in the yard. He got arrested for it and the thing went right back in the yard and he got to pay a crap ton more for it. Instead of $150 it was over $500 because of storage. Plus he got a $1000 fine.

I’m confused. Is there something wrong with you gentleman that would make you think this is any kind of funny? You think it’s funny that you’re taking transportation away from people or do you think it’s funny that you’re taking away a parents ability to get their child to school, let alone their own job which they depend on so vitally? Do you think it’s funny that this is most likely costing people Who can’t afford it hundreds, Even thousands of dollars?

I’ve had the only funds to my name tied up for days in an online banking account simply because I wanted to change my phone number within my portal and they call it suspicious. well It just so happens to be my car payment and I am in serious jeopardy of having my vehicle towed and repossessed. I can’t replace the funds and simply add more because I lost my job due to COVID-19 and I just don’t have the additional funds. I come to this site looking for help because I don’t want my vehicle to be towed and this is what I find… You’re comments. A bunch of tow truck drivers who think they’re funny.

Its just appalling to me that some of you think it’s funny that you are towing a persons vehicle when there is in fact an actual person behind each of these vehicles and under most of these related circumstances, that person is often times experiencing A significantly troublesome situation or having “hard times”. In no way shape or form is any of this funny or a humorous challenge. Get a grip and it’s not funny at all. You’re not funny at all.

Don’t worry…..tow truck drivers like to talk big as if they’re big rig drivers, when in reality all they need is a g class license and no schooling at all…..most of these guys have a hard time to hook up without causing damage to a vehicle. Drive around looking for vehicles to tow and making deals with certain garages ect that they get payouts from. Best way to not get towed is to drive a tow truck yourself, or a heavier vehicle that will put them over the 14000 kg weight limit and let the MTO deal with them lol. A heavier vehicle means they will have to bring in a real wrecker with a d class driver and those guys are all busy doing real jobs

Are you kidding lady?! People who don’t obey the rules and the laws have a sense of entitlement! People should follow the rules and the laws and they won’t get towed —- plain and simple!

What is wrong with you people? I have been trying desperately for days to get funds released from a stupid online banking account Who has tied up my car payment simply because I wanted to change my phone number. I can’t get this done and because of it my car is going to get towed and repossessed. I would just add additional funds but I recently lost my job as a result of COVID-19 and my unemployment has been taken from me and currently in appeals and I don’t have the extra funds. I come to this website possibly for some help and I see that you gentlemen think that this is funny to tow peoples cars. you think it’s funny to take peoples transportation away from them. Do you think it’s funny that parents won’t be able to get their children to school or let alone drive themselves to the work that they depend on so much And so vitally. you think it’s funny to cost people thousands of dollars. No, WTH is wrong with you? None of this is funny these are peoples lives not just your job. Real people‘s lives with real problems obviously. It’s not a joke and it’s definitely not funny or a funny challenge. There’s a person behind that car and with every car there is a situation, Often times where that person is having serious troubles. Get a grip. You’re not cute and if I saw you or met you on the street And heard you say such petty things, I would curl my lip and turn the other way.

If i see somebody try any of these tactics. I’ll be grabbing it first because i like the challenge. Parking brake on? It’ll take me less then 30 seconds to unlock the vehicle and disengage the parking brake. Dont wanna be towed? Pay your bills, dont park illegally and blend in with the rest. If you take a tire off, i’ll call in a flat deck who will then drag your vehicle onto the deck. If i have to i will move other vehicles out of my way just to grab your vehicle because i like the challenge. I know a guy who spent an hour and a half impounding a pickup truck because of the challenge. Theres no way of stopping your illegally parked vehicle from being towed. If i have to use special equipment to get your vehicle towed, you can guarantee that i’ll be charging for use of that equipment. Parked tightly between other vehicles? I got a winch that will drag your vehicle, works great for if your up against the curb. We dont care what you think will stop us from towing it. If its been called in to be towed, you’ll be towed. The moment its in the air it is legally ours. You wanna drive it off? You’ll catch a charge and destroy your vehicle if your successful at taking it off.

You can “unlock” a vehicle that requires the fob to be right next to the door to gain entry?

      • HAHAHAHAHA on September 16, 2021 at 6:38 am

That’s not how it works. The only thing the key fob is needed for is for the keyless entry module to send a signal to the door actuators to unlock. It doesn’t stop someone from unlocking the doors manually.

    • Scott on October 12, 2021 at 8:33 pm

Lmfao a repo agent CANNOT move another vehicle to get to your vehicle dont let them lie if they do u can file a lawsuit against the company and u can also go after the repo agent personally in court and sue him for moving a vehicle he was not authorized to

    • Quinton on October 25, 2021 at 3:10 am

To be honest I get where your coming from. Love the challenge but one thing I learned is never touch someone car that’s not part of the tow. Mainly because I know how I’ve reacted in the past to someone touching my car. I own a fully payed off model X 2019 I saw a tow and I shot the guy didn’t think I’m like not stealing my sh*t today. But for real don’t touch the other cars that are in your way do to how easy it is to get hurt or have to face damages that can be claimed.

      • Amanda on January 31, 2022 at 11:22 pm

Wait a sec… you shot a guy? Like with a gun?!? I’m confused but intrigued, and def wanna applaud you whether you meant it literally or figuratively.

    • Mark on March 10, 2022 at 11:56 pm

That’s the attitude. This guy is the new telemarketer. Lower than any bottom feeder. He needs to be put in his place. The pure enjoyment he gets off on. Nothing else can do it. No one else can do it. He’d die if he couldn’t take food out of people’s mouths. He couldn’t become a serial killer. This was his 2nd choice. He likes a good challange? He should have added only with towing. Cuz he would fail on all other accounts. Telemarketer hall monitor ambulance chasing punk. If he knew how to he would have made covid alot sooner. He tried voting for Biden 10 times. The law abiding citizen apparently. He does nothing wrong.
I think they should take the power from these people. Towing vehicles should not be left up to a punk like this. There should be a amount of time to right your mistake. A sticker. But he is right they give him the power to choose who he bullies. Who he lets get away with it not enough of them have been hurt. They need to be delt with. Stand up to legal theft for Ransome. It’s out of control. It’s wrong. Shut this little *** ++** up. Get him familiar with straws. Be the last tow he tries mine. I will stop his car jacking. Like any other thief. You steal for a living and enjoy taking people’s money. You know your wrong. Stop hiding behind lies. Your no tough guy. Hide behind the screen just like a troll. I say bring it.

I can’t prevent scumbags from steeling my property if they think they are doing a public service or maybe they just like screwing people over and they feelbetter about themselves. If they want to mess with my property then they will have to except the damage to their theft equipment. With hydraulic rams and clamps mounted with consideration to either crushing, binding, or my personal favorite is now they can’t get my car to let go of there tow truck. And battery acid combined with high pressure directed to dump 2 gallons of some even more distructive liquids to saturate the hydraulic control systems for the wrecker what you get! Go ahead tow my car! The challenge is to see if you get to use that wrecker body again and what it cost to repair it. Cause your Bad Ass Tow Truck ” if your lucky only needs 3000 to fix” or possibly a total loss! Just because it is Legal doesn’t make it Right! Seeing a thief have to fix there truck before they can go steel again ……Priceless !

If I see a tow truck and the driver leaves the truck unattended, I swill slash every mother freaking tire. Maybe that may buy sometime for other drivers.

    • CB on April 9, 2022 at 9:22 pm

I bet you won’t think that when it takes several hours to clear a car off the interstate you are stuck on because somebody like you decided it would be a great idea to slash the tow truck’s tires. Here’s some advice if you dont want to get towed: park legally according to federal, state, and local laws. Pay your outstanding tickets and car payments, and if you can’t, talk to the court clerk or whoever you owe money, and work out a payment plan you can work with. Most importantly, have a backup plan and room for ANY sort of delay to anything.
