The Mississippi Senate recently issued a resolution congratulating Dr. Steven Reed of Southern Eye Care of Clinton as the first Mississippian to lead the American Optometric Association (AOA).

“It is with great pride that we recognize an outstanding Mississippi health care provider who has brought honor to his profession, his community, and to the State of Mississippi,” read the resolution.

Throughout his thirty-year career, Reed has been committed to educating the public on the need for comprehensive eye care, beginning with eye screenings for students in Simpson County schools. He is also a participant in the InfantSee program that provides no-cost, comprehensive eye assessments for infants six to twelve months of age.  He previously served as president of the Mississippi Optometric Association (MOA).

“Dr. Reed and I have been friends and colleagues since we began our journey together at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, where we later graduated. I have followed his career with great admiration and could not be prouder of his achievements. There is no one more deserving to serve as the first Mississippi optometrist to lead AOA. The Mississippi Senate and all optometrists in the state applaud Dr. Reed for this well-earned honor,” said Senator David Parker.

In addition to Southern Eye Care of Clinton, Reed co-owns and operates Southern Eye Care Clinics in Vicksburg, Forest and Flowood and is owner of Family Vision in Magee, Collins and Prentiss.

Dr. Reed and his wife, Kendra, own the McRaven Tour Home in Vicksburg. It was built in 1797 and has been called the “Time Capsule of the South” by National Geographic magazine and “the most haunted house in Mississippi.” They are currently restoring The Inn at Cedar Grove, the antebellum home built in 1840.
