“May Mimosas” brings Uncorked to daytime on May 2

By Sherry Lucas

Olde Towne Uncorked takes a different approach for spring with its first ever daytime outing. Mimosas are at the center of the event.

Olde Towne Uncorked: May Mimosas will be held on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Olde Towne.

This is a special edition of Uncorked, but organizers say many fun aspects remain the same — a beverage with hors d’oeuvre at each participating business and a passport to make sure attendees make the most of the fun. Stamped passports go into a drawing for a May basket giveaway at the end of the event.

Tickets are $20 in advance (through noon on May 1), online at MainStreetClintonMS.com, and $25 onsite. Ticket holders will receive a commemorative stemless champagne flute at check-in for the mimosas that will be fizzing and flowing around town.

“We moved the stroll to morning, giving participants a chance to stop at one of our restaurants and tack on a lunch experience, in addition to mimosas,” Olde Towne Program Director Tara Lytal said. Discounts within the Uncorked time frame offer another incentive to come to the brick streets to sip and shop and see what’s new.

Usually held at night, Olde Towne Uncorked is a good event for girlfriends to get out in the evening, but moms also noted it was harder getting kids to bed on such nights, noted Sara Allen, owner of the clothing, shoes and gift shop Lovely. She was among the voices championing this try at a daytime outing.

“That’s kind of where this came from, so it’s good to try to do it during the day, for moms to come out and eat brunch together … and go around shopping.”

“I’ve heard from a lot of my girlfriends who are excited to change it up, and spend the day in Olde Towne,” Allen said. She recently moved her shop into the corner space at Leake and Jefferson (201 West Leake St.) with Black Swan Antiques.

“We have probably tripled the room in our other store,” said Allen. “I’m really excited about having a lot more room for people to hang out.”

At least nine businesses had signed up to participate by press time, and organizers expect a total of ten to twelve by the time the event arrives, Lytal said.
