Hinds CC: Brown-Marshall wins a national title during successful NJCAA meet for Eagles

Raymond, Miss. – Breanna Brown-Marshall claimed a national championship in the women’s high jump at the 2021 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship, highlighting a successful event for Hinds Eagle Track and Field male and female athletes overall. Brown-Marshall, of Birmingham, Ala., posted a jump of 1.78 meters in the finals of the competition, held May 11-13 in Levelland, Texas. She also contributed to the college’s women’s 4×100-meter relay team’s sixth-place finish, along with Ockera Myrie, of Jamaica, Jerricka Ambus, of Brandon, and Diandrenique Gaines, of Natchez. Ambus finished third in the women’s 100-meter hurdles. Leandria Elam, of the McCall Creek community in Franklin County, finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles. Overall, the women’s team finished 11th in the nation for the event. Among the men, Kacy Pratt, of Durham, N.C., Daniel Williams, of Guyana, Omar Simpson, of Snellville, Ga. and D’Andre Anderson, of Jamaica, helped finish fourth in the men’s 4×400-meter relay. Simpson, Keirston Paige, of Hattiesburg, Dapriest Hogans, Opelousas, La., and Kurt Powdar, of Chesapeake, Va., powered the men to a fifth-place finish in the 4×100-meter relay. Individually, Paige finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles and Anderson finished seventh in the 400-meter dash. Overall, the men’s team finished 18th in the nation for the event.
